New Faces, New Places

One of the famous things that Charles Schulz used to ask other cartoonists is, "What are you doing that's
new? What new characters, new places, new story lines are you introducing?"
It's an apt question from a man who produced Peanuts for FIFTY YEARS.
And it's a question I've been asking myself with Sheldon, lately. And the place that question led to...was Emily. And, in a little bit, to a second new character that'll be entering the strip.
So I hope you're ready for two new faces in the Sheldon-verse, guys!

I'm certainly glad to meet a new face.
Hi, Emily! You have good taste in theater.

Definitely worth the build-up and the wait! (And Flaco does make a mighty fine Hamlet's father's ghost.)

We have seen women in the strip before! Teachers, librarians. Most of them are old.
Emily is such a nice character. I went to the website to check if I did not miss a comic. An avalanche is softer....
My knowlede about Hamlet is not so good anymore. How many lines does the king have that it can played by a pug?

She's enthusiastic, smart, she loves Shakespeare, and she's a theatre geek.
I'm in. :)

Ooh, too fun. I'm always shy of new Sheldon characters, as we didn't see much of Dante for a while after Flaco and Oso were introduced, but I've thought recently how odd it is that Sheldon's cast is entrely male, and also that musical theatre is a greatly untapped source of humor. Sheldon addresses most of my other fandoms, but the closest we've gotten to musical theatre jokes was Star Trek the Musical and the Oompa Loompa song (Yes, I know Hamlet is not a musical unless you're on Gilligan's Island, but Phantom got a mention).
Also, Emily looks and sounds exactly like ME as a kid, down to the bangs (though I'm not Asian). I was always the one gathering up the neighborhood kids and telling them we were going to put on the Nativity now.
Welcome, Emily!

Well I'm in favor of this new character. Maybe it will help right the comic out of this slump it's been in for about a year. I commented awhile back about this because we never see Sheldonsoft or Dante or any of Sheldon's downtime in geek culture. Maybe Emily will refocus on Sheldon and Dante and their antics. Sheldon should take Emily to Sheldonsoft. She could be Sheldon's new female expert for new technologies.

I should have seen that and used "write" instead of "right" it might have been funnier and been less like I didn't like the comic. I just liked it better when Sheldon was more the focus and not so much Gramps, Arthur, and Flaco heavy.

imaloco, I'm confused. You say you want more focus on Sheldon, but you're pleased at the introduction of a new character? Who isn't Sheldon? Which one is it?

Like the others, I think a little girl is a nice addition to the strip. HOWEVER, I do not like the fact that she is being drawn with such HUGE "man-hands". A little dainty-ness on a girl character is not going to ruin the strip. Also, Sheldon should never EVER EVER have any romantic entanglements like Charlie Brown's "little red-headed girl" ... that is going too far.

I don't know why you would be confused since I was clear in what I meant. I am happy with this new character because it is a child. I am assuming it's Dave intention to have her interact with Sheldon. So obviously that would mean more Sheldon, now if Emily becomes a very regular thing with no Sheldon insight like Gramps, Arthur, and Flaco have become lately then I won't be happy with Emily's over use. But I believe Dave will use Emily better than he has Flaco. Flaco was funny and all in the beginning but he became way too over used and the same with Gramps.

Nice! I like her and her Shakespearean ways already! And as for imaloco's comment, I hope Dave doesn't pay much heed to it, because I for one have laughed my heiney off at Gramp and Arthur's banter many a time! Always happy to see 'em. And Flaco too. :)

Amen to the no romance rule or the comment about her anatomy? I still think she could be more dainty. WHY is she hunched over? Her arms come out of her chest like a T-Rex ... Dante's arms do not do this, and neither do Sheldon's arms. It looks weird. Please Mr. Kellett, pretty her up just a wee bit more?
